What We Wear is a project that explores the connection between fashion and identity through people’s closets. By photographing the often private environment of a closet, I aim to tell stories of the people through their closets. Clothing tells stories about memories, individuality, self-identity, and self-expression. Each closet serves as a gateway to personal history, housing pieces that represent significant moments in people's lives, culture, and the evolution of their identities, as well as moments of happiness, change, or discovery. While closets are often hidden, they’re filled with stories.
We express ourselves with fashion daily, yet the way we view clothing is often surface-level trends and consumption. This project aims to shift the view toward meaning: Why do we keep certain clothing items? What memories does each item hold? How do we use fashion to define, hide, or reinvent ourselves? Identity is increasingly discussed through social media, and something I personally think about regarding myself. What We Wear focuses on the physical and emotional aspects of how people dress themselves and why.
